Simplicity Funerals are now offering New Zealand's most environmentally friendly cremation choice, in partnership with Christchurch Water Crematorium.
Water cremation is also known as alkaline hydrolysis. What happens is the loved one is placed in the water cremator and a solution of 95% water and 5% alkaline solution. That combined with gentle heat allows the body to undergo the natural processes in an accelerated way. At the end of the cremation the family are left with very clean white ash that can be interred or scattered in the same way as traditional cremation. The beauty of the water cremation process is that it is much more gentle than traditional flame cremation and is also significantly more environmentally conscious.
